India vs Afghanistan – From a nail bitter to Dhoni’s 200th Captaincy Match Tied
Yes you read it right, match between India and Afghanistan has been tied. It’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 200th match as captain. Earlier Mohammad Shahzad hit a brilliant century where other batsmen were unable to score the runs he was hitting the ball so hard. It was Shahzad’s briiliant knock of 124 runs in 116 balls that they put a good total of 252 runs on the board in 5th match of super four in Asia Cup 2018.
India tried to use their bench strength as Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bumrah, Bhuvi and Chahal were rested and India gave chance to KL Rahul and Ambati Rayudu to open the inning in the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was Dhoni’s 200th match as captain and with this tied match, he is the most ODIs tied as captain with 5 tied matches in his captaincy.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Afghan opener Mohammad Shahzad played his natural game today as he was hitting boundaries so easily against Indian pacers where other batsmen were struggling to score runs and Afghanistan were loosing their wickets in the regular interval but Shahzad kept scoring. In the end overs Mohaammad Nabi also scored a crucial 64 runs to keep the score board running and they posted a good total of 252 runs in their 50 overs of quota. From India Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
In the chase of 253 runs both Indian openers scored half century and they provided century partnership for India. Lokesh Rahul scored 60 runs and Ambati Rayudu made 57 runs while in the middle Dinesh Karthik scored a handy 44 runs. But after that Indian batsmen couldn’t capitalise the solid start by top order batsmen and kept loosing wickets in the regular interval.
India needed 7 runs to win in the final over with only one wicket in hand, Ravindra Jadeja was the key batsman for India in the final over. Rashid Khan had the bowl and Jadeja was on strike, on the very first ball Jadeja denied for single and at the next ball he hit a boundry as 4 runs, now the eqation was 3 runs to win from the next 4 balls and Jadeja took single. Now Khaleel Ahmed was on strike and he took single to give strike to Jadeja on the 4th ball. Rashid Khan delivered 5th ball to take the wicket of Jadeja and match was tied.
